Crochet Beanie (simple) Pattern

Making a beanie hat is a fun and relatively simple DIY project, but of course, you do need to know how to knit or crochet first (If you need help there are plenty of ‘how to videos’ on YouTube). Here’s my basic guide on how to make a basic crocheted beanie:

Crocheted Beanie:

Materials:

  1. Worsted weight yarn (about 200 yards)
  2. Size H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook
  3. Stitch marker
  4. Yarn needle

Instructions:

  1. Magic Ring:
    • Make a magic ring and crochet 10 single crochet stitches into the ring. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
  2. Increase Round:
    • Chain 1, then crochet 2 single crochet stitches in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch.
  3. Body:
    • Continue crocheting in the round, working 1 single crochet in each stitch. Repeat until the hat reaches the desired length (usually around 7-8 inches).
  4. Decrease Rounds:
    • Round 1: Single crochet 6, single crochet 2 together; repeat to end of round.
    • Round 2: Single crochet in each stitch.
    • Repeat these two rounds until you have around 10-12 stitches left.
  5. Finishing:
    • Cut the yarn, leaving a tail. Thread the tail through a yarn needle, slip the needle through the remaining stitches, and pull tight to close the top of the hat.
    • Weave in any loose ends.

Feel free to customise the patterns with different stitch patterns, colours, or embellishments to make your beanie unique!
